Dr. Roca is Executive Director of the non-profit, DiverseScholar, a project of Community Partners. Dr. Roca is a first-generation Peruvian-American born in Houston, Texas; and, he received his Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Dr. Roca was a President's Postdoctoral Fellow in the Biochemistry Department at the University of California, Irvine. While conducting biophysical and bioinformatic research, Dr. Roca was an active volunteer creating professional development and advocacy activities for a diverse audience. Dr. Roca received a Sloan Foundation grant to organize career sessions at annual conferences of the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS). In addition, he created the web portal MinorityPostdoc.org as a resource for trainees and their stakeholder allies. Dr. Roca founded the SACNAS Postdoc Committee and served on the SACNAS Program Committee. He also co-founded the Diversity Committee of the National Postdoctoral Association. In recognition of his achievements, Dr. Roca has received the UC-Irvine Chancellor's Living Our Values Award as well as the SACNAS Distinguished Service to the Society Award. Since 2010, he has been working full-time as a career coach mentoring doctoral trainees as well as helping institutional recruiters diversify candidate applicant pools. Beginning in 2011, Dr. Roca is bridging the divide that exists between the minority and STEM blogging communities by profiling minority STEM bloggers on MinorityPostdoc.org, by curating the Diversity in Science Blog Carnivals, and by organizing sessions at the SACNAS, LATISM, and ScienceOnline conferences.You can also find Dr. Roca here:Twitter: @MinorityPostDocLinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/in/albertoroca
